What a crazy colour for a house. Too bad the scooter is in the way. I would like it better without it.
I’d say the color is definitely Maryland-ish, particularly Baltimorean. There’s a tradition in Baltimore of loving pink flamingo lawn ornaments. There’s even a giant pink flamingo above Cafe Hon in Baltimore (http://www.cafehon.com and scroll down a bit), so I got a kick out of this house in Annapolis. There was a bright yellow house on the same street. I like the scooter as a bit of contrast, along with the leaves.
I knew there was a little ceramic dog in the lower left. After seeing your comment, I decided to take another look, zooming in. There’s also a ceramic frog close to the dog and a ceramic squirrel and another animal in the basket under the window (!).
And why is Cafe Hon called Cafe Hon? Everybody says “hon” in Bawlmer, hon!
Bawlmers have funny taste, hon! That flamingo is an eyesore! :) Thanks for the description. Why don’t you add your little stories to the photos? All seem to have one, and they’re very enjoyable.
Thanks, Erika. Yeah, I can’t say I’m all that crazy about the giant flamingo, but it has all sorts of associations for Baltimoreans. The city made them take it down because it violated some ordinance. There were protests, so city hall gave in and let them put it back up, which is all for the good and made for a fun news item. Anyway, this house makes me think of all such things. :)
